International classification of sleep disorder -3 by American Academy of Sleep Medicine has classified sleep disorders in children into 6 classes
- Insomnia -It is the most common sleep disorder in children in which there is difficulty in entering into sleep, maintenance of sleep and early awakening from sleep
- Sleep related Breathing Disorder-May be,A- obstructive sleep apnea, B. Central Sleep Apnea Syndrome, C-Sleep related hypoventilation , D. Sleep related Hypoxemia
- Central disorders of hypersomnolence, may be A.Narcolepsy type 1 &2,B.Idiopathic hypersomnolence, C-Klein Levin syndrome,D-Insufficient sleep syndrome,E-Hypersomnolemce due to medical disorder, F-Hypersomnolence due to substance use or medications. Narcolepsy begins between 0-20 years of age.Klein Levin syndrome occurs during adolescence, characterised by recurrent episodes of excessive sleep ,hyperphagia and excessive indulgence in sex
- Circadian Rhythm Sleep wake disorder– most commonly seen in adolescents is delayed sleep wake phase disorder
- Parasomnia-A-NREM Parasomnia- Night Terror,sleep walking ,Sleep Talking,confusional Arousal , B-REM Parasomnia-Night mare, REM sleep abnormal behaviour, Isolated recurrent sleep paralysis,C-Others -Exploding Head syndrome,Sleep enuresis, Sleep Groaning,sleep hallucinations
