Pulmonary hemorrhage presents clinically as hemoptysis. It can be mild ,moderate or severe . Severe Pulmonary hemorrhage is massive Pulmonary hemorrhage

In adults ,massive pulmonary hemorrhage is defined as bleeding from the respiratory tract in amount of 200 ml or more in 24 hours or any amount of blood which compromises the hemodynamic balance of a patient

In children, massive pulmonary hemorrhage is defined as the amount of blood coming from the respiratory tract which is equal to or exceeds 8 ml/kg in 24 hours or any amount of bleeding which affects the hemodynamic status of a child

Fictitious pulmonary hemorrhage is called, when blood comes from the upper airways as Pulmonary hemorrhage by definition is bleeding from the lower airways

There are various causes of Pulmonary hemorrhage in children.

Bleeding after coughing is a frightening scene by parents and definitely the parents consult a doctor

Before diagnosing the bleeding point by Flexible Bronchoscopy, treatment should be started to stop the bleeding

In adults ,most commonly Tranexamic acid is given intravenously to control the bleeding

According to a study ,published in LUNG INDIA,January-February,volume 43,issue 1, an official journal of Indian Chest Society,inhalationa Tranexamic acid is equally effective in adults

It needs a randomized control trial in children before it can be used in children to treat the condition
