ABG-Arterial Blood gas analysis is very important in the management of patients particualrly respiratory patients in ICU
For this purpose ,the arterial blood is withdrawn by an expert from radial artery
If there is any air bubble in the sample it may give false reading of excess oxygen pressure in the artery
The syringe should be flushed with heparin but no heparin content should be left in the syringe ,otherwise it may give a false reading of increased acidemia
The sample can be kept at room temperature ,only for 15 minutes and at 4 degree celcius for 60 minutes
