GINA 2026 has introduced new tool ,which is very simple as well as very comprehensive for assessing the level of control of Asthma in children between 5-11 years of age . Although ,it has not been validated externally,it is the first time GINA has introduced this simple tool which can be used at any centre. It is called Pediatric Asthma Impairement and Risk Questionnaire-Peds-AIRQ.It consists of 8 questions and parents/Child has to answer in Yes or No
Question 1.Is the child symptomatic for more than 2 days in a week during day time in last 4 weeks
Question 2.Does the child use SABA for relief of symptoms for than 2 days per week in last 4 weeks,othe than before excercise
Question 3.Is the child waking up any night due to cough or breathlessness in last 4 weeks
Question 4.Has the disease limited the activity of child for any grade in last 4 weeks
Question 5.Are you grading the control of disease in last weeks good in last w weeks
Question 6. Has the child required oral steroid 2 or more time in last 12 months for controlling the symptoms
Question 7. Was anytime in last 12 months the child had to visit emergency department any time for asthma symptoms
Question 8.Had the child been admitted even overnight in hospital for asthma symptoms in last 12 months
Every Yes answer is scored 1 and every No answer is scored zero.
If the score is 0-2 -Well controlled,Score 3-4 Not well controlled, Score 5-8 Very poorly controlled
