Sleep is an active nerobiological precess regulated by interaction of Ascending reticular activating system ,VLPO,Process -C and Process-S

Wakefulness occurs by two ARAS-Ascending reticular activating system of brainstem

Sleep starts with deactivation of ARAS by Galanin and GABA secreted by hypothalamic VLPO

Awake state is maitained by hypocretin, also called orexin which is a switch stabiliser

Two process regulationProcess -S-Homeostasis= makes pressure for sleep partly reg-

ulated by adenosine ,the level of adenosine in body rises with insreasing duration of wakefulness

Procees-C-Circadian process- keeps a person sleepy when there is low pressure of sleep in early morning by process-S. Process C operates through suprachiasmatic nucleus and synchronised by light . In low light melanin is secreted more which promotes sleep

Sleep is essential for neurodevelopment, growth, congnitive function and memory of children
